This came out of nowhere. This evening I got the words “View stock market.” Here’s the rest of it. “Debt ceiling related” (a bill must be passed to allow the country to borrow more money for its operations). I see an overall stock market drop of 40%, maybe more.

The news is now counting down the number of hours until we hit our Treasury Secretary’s “June 1” (or so) date when the money runs out. I get 222 hours (9 days of 24 hours plus six hours). Much fewer trading hours, of course.

So far, the financial markets have barely reacted to the national debt ceiling impasse in our House of Representatives. I think “everyone” believes Congress will pass a bill to raise the debt ceiling from 1/16/2023’s 31.4 trillion to some higher figure or later date. Again, don’t hold your breath. I’ve been warning of a debt crisis all year. Our treasury’s Janet Yellen has been borrowing from set-aside money all year to tide us over until all such sources run out.

Rather than the nation declaring debt default, I think there will be de facto evidence that we can no longer pay our bills. Moody’s may lower our nation’s credit rating soon. The entire world is watching the Republicans’ game of debt roulette. Watch for a dollar dump around the world!

What’s default like? Don’t look for your Social Security check to be deposited. The military can’t be paid. Congress can’t be paid! Biden will have to go on food stamps, which don’t taste good. Flamingoes will have no legs to stand on, not just one. There may be a run on the banks . . .

I suggest if you own stock, get out of the markets until the debt ceiling is raised. The nation is being held hostage by extremists.

There may be a flight to gold as a safe haven for converting money into a timeless commodity. I’ve predicted all year that gold this year will hit $3,600 an ounce sometime in 2023, up from about $2,000. If gold starts climbing, buy!

What’s this debt crisis like? It’s like a George Santos rubber check, a phony check, drawn on a phony account, which is what he did in Brazil before he ex-patted from there to here. It’s the check you can’t cash. It’s a promissory note , an I.O.U., like a bar tab, that never gets paid. Better get some cash. Food. Water. Gas. Upheaval all over the place!

Debt crisis!

Over and out.
