What are people from Tampa (FL) called?

They are called Tampons.

People from the Florida panhandle are called . . . panhandlers.

People from Paris are called Parasites.

Hunters from Venice . . . hunt ducks from Venetian blinds.

People from Pueblo (CO) are called . . . Pueb-baloney-uns.

So how was your day?

Some previous hurricanes, tropical storms, and cyclones that produced substantial economic damage each in the USA:

Katrina: 117 billion (I say a high 8 out of 10 in force/damage)

Harvey: 62.2 billion (I say a low 7 out of 10)

Ian: 113 billion (I say between 7 and 8 out of 10)

Irma: 77 billion (I say a high 7.

And NOW: I predicted Idalia (stupid hurricane name) will be a high 6. I estimate the damage in billions as being about 50 billion in the USA (that’s 50,000 million dollars (50,000 and add six 00000), which is still a chunk of change). I suspect this is the big storm I was expecting psychically, the most expensive storm of this hurricane season. Lots of flooding, not so much of wind damage. GA and the Carolinas also impacted; then the storm went out to sea.

Now take a look at this list of the costliest Atlantic hurricanes from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_costliest_Atlantic_hurricanes

It runs from 1992–2017 and hurricane costs have gone up strikingly every year on it, from 27 billion in 1992 to 295 billion in 2017. Hurricane costs have been even more, of course, since then. And you say you’d like to live in FL? Hmm. Soon: good luck finding home insurance there.

Late note from me. Now they say Hurricane Idalia only cost 20 billion dollars in all in damage (10 billion of it paid by insurance), not 50 or more. The TV tries to scare you out of your shorts — for ratings numbers. DeSantis and Biden did a wonderful job addressing the safety, infrastructure, and economic impacts of Idalia.

Love,

Gene.
