The BUCK Stops Here! House Member Ken Buck’s “I’m out!” Ultimatum. By Gene W. Edwards. Posted 3/13/2024.
It’s official. U.S. Congressman Ken Buck from Colorado’s 4th house district is quitting at the end of next week. If that’s a Friday, then Friday 3/22/2024 will be his last day.
Presently 221 members of the house are Republicans and 213 are Democrats. After Buck quits, the above number will be 220/213. Special elections will have to take place for every vacant seat before the November General Election. Special Elections take months to announce, winnow down candidates to a runoff of two, and voters choose one of the two after that.
Ken Buck, who has been very vocal about the lack of bipartisanshi in the house under Trump and Johnson, may be speaking for as many as 100 other Republican reps in the House, most of them frustrated that almost nothing is being done!
Buck suggests if three more Republicans quit and all four (includes him) are replaced by Democrats in special elections, the House balance will be 216 Republicans/217 Democrats. Note: presently, there are two vacancies in the House but both will probably be filled by Republicans, such as Kevin McCarthy’s seat, which is up or election on March 19. That would get us back to 218 Republicans again, 217 Democrats . . . unless even more Republicans quit. If one more quits, that brings us to 218 Dems, 217 Republicans again and the Democrats “win.” I’m sure Buck would like to start a “movement.”
